Messier 36 is an open cluster in the Auriga constellation.
Messier 36 is one of several open clusters in the Auriga constellation. It's nearby neighbors are M37 and M38 and all can be observed with a modest telescope. From a dark site, they even show up in binoculars.

This photo was taken from my backyard in a single night and it is a bit over three hours worth of two minute image frames.

There was a problem with the data acquisition for this image and as a result some of the calibration files didn't get applied properly. To compensate, some of the calibration was done in software rather by my normal method of applying "flat" files taken from the telescope.

One artifact leftover that is not easily fixed in software is what appears to be a dust mote on the green filter. The out of focus mote shows up on the image as a somewhat large, slightly green zone in the background near the lower right corner. There is also a bit of a greenish gradient leftover along the right side too. More processing might fix that but on the other hand, it's not that bad so I just left it as-is.
